Helping Hands is dedicated to providing enrichment programs to those experiencing dementia and Alzheimers. We utilize one-on-one memory guidance exercises with the hope of generating moments of recaptured memory.

We provide our services to the elderly with dementia issues who reside in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospices or private homes. These services offer personal and interactive activities using memory invoking picture cards, co-writing story techniques, multi-media art creation, reminiscent music and other audio-visual tools.

Prior to our initial session with an individual, we ask families to complete a brief bio of their loved one. This information allows us to create a personalized experience for the individual. Each enrichment activity is adapted to coordinate with the person’s history. When actual facts are incorporated into sessions, it often promotes deeper memories and ones that may be easier to retrieve in future visits. When this information is not available, we prompt the individual with assorted activities and record and notate their session as they offer up potential past memories. These “memories” are then compared with family or friends, when possible, to determine accuracy. If the individual’s memories are correct, we will continue to reinforce these memories on consecutive visits.

Our one-on-one methods are equally designed to encourage the evolution of a trusting friendship between ourselves and each individual. We also strive to enhance the quality of life for the individual and their families by providing this supplementary attention and memory stimulation to the individual and additional tools and support to their families.

We generate session written transcripts. If the families would like copies of the session transcripts, we will be glad to supply them via email. We will also share this information with the caregivers and staff to incorporate into the individual’s resident notes with the hope that this material may be of value in providing an even deeper understanding of their resident.
